Cristen is asleep and I am wide awake. It hardly even registers that its 1am right now. I've just spent some time looking up Boltthrower album art and downloads, and now I am seeking out thoser really well produced songs that I remember from highschool and college that I like, even if I didn't feel all of the artists work or thought they were overhyped. In other news the job is getting interesting. We had some major personnel shifts and had a period where it was just me and one other guy S. working the shop. It has been hectic but we are getting out of it very soon. I still love the job, but I confesst o having some real hair pulling moments in my breif career as a hobby specialist. Music wise thing are looking up. I've decided to get back in to the mix, litterally. I have a few possible gigs in the air. I still need to get some replacement needles for my turntables. Did a little bit of record shopping two weeks ago and found some really really incredible records. I'll post more about them soon.

Wed, Jul. 19th, 2006, 11:02 pm Looking back
I realize that I often post at times when my spelling is the worst. may the gods of grammer forgive me. The Chaos Frame gig on Saturday went really, really well. It was the first time we had performed in front of a decent sized audiance, most of whom didn't know us personally. A bunch of friends showed up including Mikal aka HIred Gun, CeeCee and two of my friends from Adelphi Jessie and Ray. Cris was also able to finally see us live and according to her we were awsome, and I know she would tell me if we sounded like crap. I had cut up some samples of Robert Anton Wilson's speech at the Disinfocon and several of the creepy midnight spank commercials to use as filler and transition peices and they worked out great. There were a few moments in the beginning as always where it took some time for us to sync up but by the end it just felt really good. Thars not the right word, it felt pure and honest. At the end we actually got the loudest applause of the night, at least that I heard. I don't get Laila Lounge at times. Everytime that I have played there, either as a band or DJing, the vast vast vast majority of the other performers just well, don't sound that good, many of them sound rather painfull to listen to, as if there friends never had the heart to tell them, to quote Adarro Minton "you can cook but you can't sing, get back in the kitchen." Is it that New York is just oversaturated with bands and sub par performers or is it just that there is no discrimination as to who they book? I don't know. It may have worked in our favor that night. Its a really great venue, I just wish they had better performers there. In other news I finnished my first freelance writing gig. It was a review of a short story collection called "Gay Black Crippled Fat" by Adarro Minton and an interview. It was an interesting read, he is very talented but I found myslef wishing that most of his stories were longer. They seemed to be cut short. The interview was a bit surreal. I met him, his partner, a intern and an assistant in Jamaica Queens, we then went to the Vetrans of Forigen Wars bar/club/office house to conduct the interview. He was a very cool guy. I sent the review and the transcipts out on Monday hopefully it will be up online or in press releases soon. I am writing a grant proposal that needs to be postmarked by tomorrow. Its part of a new intiative to get grant m oney directly to artists no matter what stage of production their projects are in. I'm going to try and get some money to fund a full release of "The Bergen Sessions" this time with a run of between 300 and 500 copies, with cover art, upc codes and and ISBN number so I can put them up on amazon and other markets. I have my fingers crossed. Just hope that I can get everything done and sent out on time. I've been having major writers block on the subject this week. I think the heat has been messing with my brain, especially after the tours.

Dear Camb: On this birthday please reflect on the advice of Nelson Mandela. We paraphrase: Do not hide your light. Let your light shine as bright as you choose to shine it in order that you manifest your greatness. In claiming your light others will see brightness and be inspired to shine theirs. Please know that we are proud of what you have already done. We anticipate your future.Okay, now go out an light-up New York City! Happy Birthday from Your Mom and Dad I have been thinking alot about this quote my parents sent me recently. I am trying to focus my light. Break thru the clouds and crap. The gig at Alphabet Lounge went very well. Ben and I got soaked walking in the rain from the 2nd avenue F train to seventh street and avenue C. We got there later than we wanted but it was all good as no one showed up untill after eight. We took our time drying off and settting up and then we rocked it. I'm spacing out the sounds more. Creating textures and moments with in the wall of sound that I put out. Let the light shine.

OK so here is my mid year list of ideas and projects that I am working on. Hopefully some of these may lead to fortune, fame and glory. 1. I have started taking martial arts classess for free in Prospect park. The instructor is really cool, down to earth and practical. He also talks alot about the history of the form and its relation to others. We are learning the basics of the style right now, focusing on breathing, stances, using chi etc. Status- going to class this evening :) 2. Have a huge idea for a RPG and novel/short story universe. Belive it or not this all came from a dream I had about three days ago where supernatural creatures, werewolves, fey etc. were part of the normal every day experiance. they were in a way immigrant minorites. The setting of the game involves players being either humans or these formerly mythical creatures and trying to figure out how to deal with (or exploit) each other in a time where cosmic and magical forces are very, very real. Status-working on setting and magic rules. I'm leaning more towards a freeform style a la Mage the Ascension. I want to avoid at all costs the Dungeons and Dragons Spell book syndrome. I think I may use Basic Fuzion as the core of the game untill I get around to writing up charachter generation rules and what not. 3. Revising "Denial" I am giving Denial another once over. Trying to add more texture and motivation of the narrator (again its not me and the apartment is not Cristens) 4. The Red weekly that was at Karma now tennitivly at Ripple. I don't know whats goign on here. I went there on wednesday to play but no one was there. Manager said he hadn't talked to the organizer and I was basically SOL. Luckily it was only about six blocks fromwhere I live but I was pretty pissed off. I still haven't heard from Joe V. so I don't know about this one. 5. CHAOS FRAME! I am amped for the show on thursday. soooo amped. I haven't been as interestedin making music on my own over the past yearor so. Since I started working with Will and Ben things are turning around. I'm hearing more possibilities in the air. 6. Sigil project- its still on the back burner. I think I am going to work on the RPG and short stroies more before I jump in to this because I want to play with the little ideas in the other works then bring them all together in this one. Kind of like what the writers of Art and Fear ment when they said "the small works lead to the great works." oh if anyone knows how to add a paypal button to a LJ or myspace page let me know.
Chos Frame is going to be rocking Fontanas next Thursday. Its cheap and will be like nothing you have heard before.
BOH! The first Chaos Frame recording is beautiful. To quote Ben we sound something akin to "If Wes Montgomery smoked salvia and played on Future Sound of London..." We have made a myspace page ( here) and have three sections from the raw mix up. We also have two gigs lined up for june one of the at Fontanas. I will keep you all posted as soon as I get more information.
Hey all I'm only giving my self a few minutes to update right now, expect some more tomorrow. I know you are all waiting with baited breath :) anyways last saturdaynight/sunday morning I had the Glasshouse gig. It was actually pretty fun. byt he time I arrived there it didn't quite feel like 2am and once I stepped up to the decks at 4am the party was at a good place for reggae. I realized that I am really more of a roots reggae and dub man than dancehall. It was fun spinnign like 2 or three dancehall records byu then I just got a bit bored with it. Once I switched up to strictly roots and dubstyle tracks it went great. I ended with a track from the pink floyed dub tribute album Dubside of the Moon, "Us and Them". It was perfect. The Wednesday night weekly at Karma was great! I was in the mode. it was very relaxed and casual, had a chance to school Joe Villa in the Jungle Bizness. I'll put up a track lisiting later but it looks like thats going to be a regular event. I will be posting setlists and (if the gods of recording are kind to me) actual sets soon. Friday night went great as well. Ben (guitar) Will (aussie cello) and me (laptop) played about 45 minutes of improvisational beats and soundscapes at Grumpy Cafe under hte Chaos Frame moniker. We had rehearsed on thursday and we all jelled together suprisingly easily. even when we made mistakes we were able to play off of it and lock in to each others grove. layers of tension were built up and resolved, blissed out moments occured. it was lovely. We are goign to have a recording session in the apartment soon and possibly another gig at Fontanas on the 15th of june. have to staighten up the room and meet up with the significant other *blows a lj kiss to cristen*
I'm going to be touching down at Karma Wednesday night around about 10. I'll be dropping a mix of Hip-Hop and ragga infused jungle. Hope to see some of you there. KARMA 51 1st ave between 3rd 4th street. Take to F or V to second avenue. peace!
